Institute for Democracy and Safe Development (IDSD) calls for Expert/Researcher for the project funded by the Government of Canada – Embassy of Canada “Textbook for Empowerment and Self-protection Mechanisms for Marginalized Groups” (October, 2016 – January, 2017).
About the Project:
The goal of the project is to contribute to empowering the two most discriminated social groups in Georgia: the LGBTs and the women. This will be done via an empowerment module, that includes necessary skill-sets and a self-help manual.
Description of the Duties:
** To conduct focus groups for the representatives of various social sub-groups from marginalized communities (ethnic minority women, regional LGBTs, LGBT ethnic minorities, young girls from village and border communities, youth from conflict regions susceptible to violence) on human rights, state and independent protection mechanism and survival tactics in hostile environments.
** To Identify the major findings and results of the focus groups, and design a training module, with best local and international practices. Design curriculum, and an interim manual.
** To carry out an intensive training week, in collaboration with other thematic area experts, for LGBTs, and women on empowerment, rights, and self-protection skills necessary to survive hostile Georgian environments based on the newly designed methodology.
** To assess the results of the training week, and finalize the manual. Add notes for educators on how to use the book with peer-to-peer and in classroom settings.
Key qualifications:
** Advanced degree in Social Sciences, Gender Studies, Sociology, Women’s Studies, Human Rights Law and/or related fields
** At least 3 years of experience of conducting social research on Gender Studies/Minority Studies/LGBT issues
** Experienced trainer/educator
** Good knowledge of English; research and writing skills.
